Blane De St. Croix’s work is on view at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts’ Anderson Gallery in Forecast, a group show that highlights the human race’s roll in climate change and its adverse effect on the environment.

Blane relies on exhaustive field research to produce work that explores geopolitical land issues and their effect on the landscape. His monumental Dead Ice, the research for which he conducted in the Arctic Circle, references the melting remains of a glacier, a result of climate change. The piece is reminiscent of baleen and dirty snow, the whole thing resembling something once living that is now dead and rotting.

In addition to Blane, the show includes the work of Amy Balkin. Adriane Colburn. Mark Dion, Julie Heffernan and Gideon Mendel. Through December 7.
