Brooklyn artist Anki King will exhibit her drawing and painting series “Sisters,” based on her experience as the oldest of three sisters, at Trygve Lie Gallery in New York City, with an opening reception on Thursday, March 12, 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on view through April 26. Part of this work was created during Anki’s VCCA residency last fall.
This work is also being featured at the International Museum of Women.
“Sometimes materials can inspire; sometimes a space restriction or infinite space can challenge, and at times, music can give you unprecedented ideas,” says Anki. “I was lucky that all of these came together to give me Vine Woman. Vine Woman wove herself into my mind one night while I listened to a young composer Jeff Stanek play his piece Insinuation in the Leaves. The following day, I immediately got materials for an armature and started collecting vines and branches. A few days and some sore hands later, Vine Woman was placed on a nature trail for all to enjoy. Eventually, however, she will return back to nature.”
