SoHyun Bae

SoHyun Bae is an American painter living and working in New York. She is the recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in Fine Arts, 2007; the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in the field of Painting, 2002; the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc. Grant, 2000; a Fellowship at Montalvo Art Center, 2019; a Fellowship at The Corporation of Yaddo, 2000; the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in conjunction with Virginia Center for Creative Arts, 1996; and a full scholarship to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, 1993.

SoHyun Bae received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, 1990; a Master of Fine Arts from Boston University, 1994; and a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School in 1997 having studied with the Nobel Laureate, Elie Wiesel. Her works have been exhibited in North America, South America, Europe and Asia and are in the Permanent Collections of The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University as well as corporate and private collections throughout the world.

Bill Jacobson

Bill Jacobson (b.1955, Norwich, CT) has been making photographs for nearly 50 years. Though his methods have varied considerably, the work is joined by underlying concerns with memory, perception, and the subtle dialogue between absence and presence.

Prior to moving to New York in 1982, Jacobson received a BA from Brown University (1977) and an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute (1981). He has exhibited widely in the U.S. and Europe, and is in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum; Whitney Museum; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Brooklyn Museum; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Victoria and Albert Museum, and many others. Jacobson received fellowships from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2017), the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation (2012), the Aaron Siskind Foundation (1995), and the New York Foundation for the Arts (1994).

In addition to residencies at VCCA in both Virginia and France, he has had seven residencies at MacDowell and also attended Yaddo, Civitella Rainieri Foundation, Bogliasco Foundation, Blue Mountain Center, and Edward Albee Foundation. Between 2008 and 2018 he taught in the ICP/Bard MFA program. Seven monographs have been published of Jacobson’s work. A new book, which will include work from both VCCA residencies, will be published next year.

Pat Lipsky

Pat Lipsky is an American artist who represents lyrical abstraction and color field painting. Her paintings are like true color worlds. Lipsky is also known as the author of several essays and articles on the art world in which she explores the concerns of being a female artist.

Pat Lipsky was born in 1941 in New York City. She studied art at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cornell University. She also took classes at the Art Students League in New York City and received her MFA from Hunter College’s Graduate School of Painting. Lipsky received grants from the Pollock Krasner Foundation, and many others. She is a recipient of the Purchase Prize from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Her paintings are in the collections of The Whitney Museum, The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Walker Art Center, The Brooklyn Museum, and Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum, among others.
