About the Fellowship
This VCCA fellowship is intended to support women artists (fiction writers, screenwriters, or visual artists) emerging in mid-life and beyond, whose creative paths, like Marian Treger’s, may have been detoured or hindered by chronic health conditions or disabilities. In addition to a two-week residency at VCCA, the fellowship will include a stipend to help support the artist financially in order to be able to take this time away from her daily life and focus fully on her creative project.
Marian Treger’s lifelong friends collaborated to create this fellowship in honor of Marian’s unstoppable multifaceted creativity. You can help support this fellowship by donating via the online form below.

About Marian Treger
Marian was a writer, screenwriter, and visual artist whose profound health challenges interfered with her ability to fully immerse herself in the creative world. As an undergraduate, Marian was a passionate fiction writer who turned her talents to screenwriting in her 20s and won a Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award while pursuing her master’s at UCLA. When she became sick with chronic fatigue syndrome she was unable to continue her career in screenwriting. Nevertheless, her creative spirit endured, finding new ways to manifest itself. As energy and health allowed, she cartooned, drew, made collages, became a jeweler, and wrote short fiction and memoirs.
