The 2017 Etchings Festival
June 26 - July 3, 2017
Etchings 2017 is proud to have Raphäel Cendo and Philippe Leroux in residence as Guest Composers this year. We are also excited to announce the first year of our Performance Artist program with Colin Gee, Guest Choreographer.
Now in it's 7th year, the festival will take place from June 26 - July 3, 2017 at the Moulin a Nef in Auvillar, France, between Bordeaux and Toulouse. Concerts at the festival take place in a 14th Century chapel, renovated and acoustically sublime.
Both professional and student composers are welcome to apply. Participant works will be rehearsed daily and each work will be given a dedicated recording session. Festival concerts will offer opportunities for performers, composers, and audience members to interact with live performances of participant works.
Participant composers meet each morning for private lessons and each afternoon for masterclasses where guests share their music and critique participant work. The fellows who study at Etchings come from around the world. The level of teaching is as high as any major international festival, but with the intimacy that allows for great attention and consideration to be given to each fellow.
Notifications for participation and commissions will be in mid-February.
The population of Auvillar is deeply invested in the arts. Audience members from the community attend concerts as well as open master classes and rehearsals. The public nature of the festival creates optimal participant interaction with the performers and the larger artistic community in Auvillar.
Between sessions, participants are encouraged to explore the exceptional cultural environment of Auvillar and its spectacular natural surroundings in southwest France.
